Must watch television. Last Saturday at Noon. A 41-gun salute across the kingdom and beyond. The four UK nations, Gibraltar and Australia, simultaneously and ceremonially paid their respects to the former top soldier, sailor and airman, and loyal consort to our Queen.

A tribute and reminder of the contribution and service to Queen and adopted country of the recently late HRH Prince Philip.

But for me, the most chilling reminder was the metallic clink as brass shellcases hit the ground. A stark reminder that although these might be blanks, they are weapons for use in earnest in our defence.

Thanks Christopher. It was that ‘clink’ of the shellcases hitting the deck that was really quite chilling 😱
