Media Meddling

When you start dabbling in your ancestry, you risk waking unwelcome ghosts. Seeking that royal or aristocratic connection is one thing, but sometimes the odd idiosyncratic spirit might rise from the ether.

My wife’s family tree traces back to William the Conqueror, but along the way we find a relative with ‘a murky past’. William E (name withheld to protect the innocent) was a printer and newspaper proprietor. But the tedium turned him into a different medium.... to spiritualism.

Clients paid handsomely to commune with departed souls. Until William was exposed as a fraud.

Then his business simply spirited away.
