Up the tiers and down in the mouth
London, Essex, parts of Herts,
Christmas comes relentlessly
But Rules in fits and starts.

Self-serving troublemakers
Fight for their special cause
As experts and follyticians
Wage uncivil wars.

Don’t do this, do do that
Stick in your tiny bubble
Even then still wear your mask
Or Christmas will bring trouble.

All must keep their distance,
Yes, even when indoors
The only way to make it work
Is to pass Draconian laws.

BAN the Christmas spirit,
BAN all booze from the start!
MAKE us chew on garlic
That’ll keep us all apart!

(Unless anyone knows otherwise, I’m going to claim ‘follyticians’!)

Well done Marion!! You won’t need the garlic then! I don’t reckon we’ll get done until February, but my daughter-in-law’s dad is the first in Rugby to get it (possibly because he was a GP before retirement!). Just as well he was first because he hates garlic!

Thanks Drew! These strange times are prompting weird drabbles. I’m a garlic lover too. It supposed to be good for one (wonder if it’s working for me?🤔

I fear we may have lost Christopher for some time. He was particularly sore at the US Election shenanigans and very upset at Donald Trump’s defeat. Nobody here on Drablr commented in a pro-Trump supportive way and maybe that hurt. Personally, I try to strip politics or partisanism out of my writing (as I believe all follyticians are self-seeking scumbags whatever way they lean - there, I used my new word...Yeeha!). BBC’s Roadkill 4-parter was good though if you saw it and the brilliant Borgen series (with the lovely Sidse Babett Knudsen as Danish PM). They were both political, but they served to underscore my dislike of the breed.

Borgen was a few years back, 3 series I believe. I think it’s definitely on one of the on demand channels, pre- BritBox, it’s probably on Netflix, or maybe back on iPlayer. What I think you’d like is that it shows the ugly side of realpolitik in a system dependent upon unholy alliances thrown up through coalition. And I think the PM in the middle of it, played by Sidse Babett Knudsen, is great. I found it revelatory and a good yarn too! I’m sure you’d like it.
