Face facts
In earlier days he’d have been called a dandy, popinjay or swell. For him, keeping up appearances was critical. His looks would be his fortune. He’d read that, in order to stay fair of face, one must apply moisturiser day and night, as regular as brushing his perfect teeth. Of wrinkles there would be none.
He was obedient to this advice... and more. His skin was so soft, so smooth, so very, very moist!
But too much of a good thing is too much. The dripping skull in the mirror had his perfect teeth, but Marcus had completely lost face.

Eek! That's a scary thought.
Did you have something after the word fortune? I see a little box with the letters obj inside it. I didn't know if it was an emoji or something that didn't show up on my end.
