The mirror wouldn’t lie. Looking at his reflection, all he saw was a sombre figure leering back at him. He pulled his face quite deliberately into what he supposed to be a smile.... but the effect was to prompt an evil scowl in response.
Determined to break the apparent mirror curse, he decided on a test. Instead of smiling, he scowled at his mirror image. The mirror smiled back. Liking that mirror smile, he soon forgot his own scowl. The narcissist took over. The scowl stuck, but he never knew.
But everyone could see the ugly secrets of his soul.

Once saw 'Try looking at yourself without using a mirror.' on a list of life suggestions. Maybe he should do that.
