It’s frightening when the fighters suddenly appear in your airspace. Were you not scared, you might watch in wonder as they manoeuvre randomly it seems, but with sinister purpose, spitting poison. Small, with deadly intent, you spot their markings. No mistaking their target... you!

A single fighter you’ll feel reasonably confident in bringing down, but when you do, you may well regret it, because with the sophistication of their communication, they’ll get backup really soon, maybe even a squadron.

And if that happens, then you’ll have to move on. Lunch must now be a moveable feast... and no longer alfresco!

Reminded me of War Of The Worlds until it got to the end.

There was plenty of wafting yesterday lunchtime, Brian, but when we eventually retreated indoors, the little blighters followed.

Do you have wretched wasps over there, Christopher? I just had a nest of the beasts in my garage roof. Maybe yesterday’s lunch was their revenge for me calling out the pest control man!

We do but I don't have too much trouble with them. The bane of my existence in the insect world is ants. Mounds pop up everywhere outside and the only reason I stopped the onslaught of attacks on my home was to have the exterminator come out once a month. I run a clean household and took caulk and sealed every crack, nook and cranny I could find and still they menaced me before I had the exterminator make regular trips.

My wife’s brother has a house on one of the Greek islands and the ants there are frightful. Utter cleanliness in the kitchen and everywhere else is paramount. My daughter inadvertently left a wrapped candy by her bedside only to find it alive and throbbing with ants whilst still remaining wrapped. Any crumbs left in the kitchen after any meal prompt an ant trail within minutes. My sister-in-law is paranoid about the possibility of them taking over, but I guess it’s just ant-icipation!
