In silhouette, just after a glorious sunset, it was a fascinating sight. I imagined there were Neolithic pixies dancing round the vast structures as they summoned up their magic. It was a magical sight and the magic slowed to a crawl the relentless traffic on the arterial, but narrow, trunk road west, allowing drivers to sneak a cheeky peek at the famous prehistoric stones.

Funny to think that of all the giant world wonders, this most famous structure is Britain’s contribution. It seemed so small, whilst the traffic jam was so big. But there, in silhouette, it was simply breathtaking.

Yes, Brian, but it’s just as congested every year. We have a very effective route to avoid that during daylight hours but I was surprised to find the congestion at sunset... There are current plans to underpass the monument, but that might be a shame, taking it out of sight for passers-by.
