Strong Women #1

by

I married into a long line of strong women. Matriarchs. Shes who must be obeyed. My own strong one is currently occupying herself with her family trees.

Old photos have been unearthed from the attic. Sepia and early monochrome studies in formality. But aside from the occasional token male, looking scared, they’re all studies of the kind of women you wouldn’t want to meet on a dark night.

Dark dresses and even darker countenances challenge anyone out there looking in. “Don’t mess with me... or else!”

Me, I know my place.... and maybe I’ll get up off them one day.

People always seem to look menacing in really old photos, especially the sepia ones. I've seen pictures from the late 1800s and I wondered how our species even survived! Those dour women looked like they wouldn't even let a man get near them!

Yes Christopher, it’s a wonder any men wanted to get remotely near them! (Mrs H was very cute though 😍)

I love it! I love it! Obviously, if you write about formidable, strong women, I am going to love it. I want to be one them. Unfortunately, Mother nature did not give me menacing features :-(

Oh I'm quite sure! I'm mainly talking about the really old ones, particularly here during the Wild West days. Some of those pioneer women looked well rough!

Sorry, Frenchie! I didn't see your comment when I posted my response to Neville. I wasn't talking about you!

Thanks Frenchie. I’m pleased that Mother Nature was kind to you (and Mrs H too!... but she can make the guys in my family cautious without raising her voice, with just a look... which was probably inherited...)

It is a strange 'fact' that the further one goes back in time, the less inclined people were to smile in their photographs. Nicely done.
