“What if I said you’d got just six months to live?” The doctor had known his multi-millionaire patient for years and spoke straight.
“What?” asked the tycoon, shocked, but the doctor quickly added.
“Hypothetically... what would you do?”
Relieved, the man replied. “Well... I’d try to make peace with my children, for whom I’ve not been the greatest father. And then I could see my grandchildren and try to stop them becoming like me. And I’d give a few millions to charity...”
“Why not do it now?”
“You mean I’m dying?”
“Not yet... but it might improve your living”

Thanks both. It was prompted by me remembering a chat I had once with our Chairman at a colleague’s wedding when I was working for the largest ad agency in London at the time. He told me he envied me (!)... and then told me why. I might drabble the conversation if it will fit...
