We’ve a couple of veggies in our family. To be exact one veggie and one “trying to be vegan”. For carnivores like the rest of us, it can be difficult catering for those trying to show us the way, particularly at family get-togethers. We do our best, but how can we know if the vegetarian options we prepare for the enlightened ones are edible or not?

So, as guinea pigs, we make and test various veggie options. Yesterday we tried chick pea, courgette and sweet potato burgers. Tasty!

But where there’s a pulse, there’s not just life, but vegeruption!

My mom had a motto, "Eat it or starve." I still adhere to that to this day.

Not quite sure what your mom meant Christopher.

Meaning she cooked what she cooked and you either ate what was put on the table or you didn't eat. I guess that's just how it was when I was growing up. There weren't all the options and variety there is now.

Ah, thanks. It was the same in our household, but with four boys it couldn’t be any other way. We were lucky to be eating anything and it was a practical lesson in fairness. Each of us boys would in turn be given the task of dividing up the pie. The rule was simple. The pie cutter was last in line to chose a piece of pie. Mathematical protractors were always on the table!

Haha. Thankfully I only had an older sister so divvying up sweets wasn't too much of a problem.

I don't want to give the impression that my mom was a food tyrant, though. She'd ask us what we wanted and would cook that often, but it was still a matter of eating what was put before you.
