The hummingbird, very small, characterised by its continual humming. Native to South America. But... there's one to be heard in our garden. The Hertfordshire Hummingbird.

Before catching sight of the Hertfordshire Hummingbird you will hear it. You might hope for some variety in its hum, but you’ll be disappointed. On the other hand, it might be right up your rue, if you happen to be French and you like plucking feathers from poor defenceless birds.

“Aloutte, gentille Aloutte” she hums... incessantly... in our garden or all around the house. She hates it; so do I, but she can’t stop herself...
