I was captivated by one of the backing singers, an elegant woman with a short, neat haircut, providing harmonic support for the unusual front row line up. Unusual, because usual wouldn’t have been a bunch of hardened rockers sitting in a row with acoustic instruments. These boys were used to banging out strings of rock favourites through electric amps wound up to eleven.
Would it work unplugged for this band? Would it work at The Roundhouse? Would it work for the elderly audience of hardened fans? Would I prefer the status quo... or whatever?
Whatever! Quo was what I wanted.

You know what's strange? For that band to have been so big in the UK they only ever had one Top 40 hit here, in 1968, called "Pictures Of Matchstick Men." That's how I got into them, when I heard that song as a teen back in the late 80's. Psychedelic rock is my all-time favorite subgenre of rock music. And their first album (called "Messages From The Status Quo" here in America) is a psych rock classic.
