Beaten #6

“We don’t like him!” the boys said in unison to their mother at bedtime when Tony was first invited to stay the night, “He’s yuk!”. Only eight years old they might be, but both were aware that any new man introduced to them might be a potential ‘new dad’. They'd heard Zack in class at school talk about his ‘new dad’ and how this ‘new dad’ bought him sweets and toys and was always hugging and kissing his mum. “Yuk!” he’d said, which said everything... thought the twins.

Downstairs, Tony had overheard those horrid little 'yukkers!'

"I'll give them yuk!"

Can't praise this highly enough Neville. The scene's set perfectly, the story intriguing and like I said before it could anywhere from here. Can't wait for more :)

Thanks very much Drew. Well... it's all ready to go, titles and all, but maybe like chocolate it needs to be consumed in moderation? But remember, it's no epic!

Our next short story was randomly selected yesterday evening. The 'givens' are Character 1 - a distressed nun, Character 2 - an imaginative sceptic, Conflict - jealousy, Location - an office, Object - a broken pipe. Now that sounds like an exciting prospect and somehow makes me think of the very wonderful Fleabag, which I'm sure you must be watching. If what I end up writing passes the Mrs H test, then it might get the drabble treatment too! :-)

Ooh that sounds interesting, good luck with it mate. I love Fleabag, haven't seen many yet, but that woman (her name escapes me for the moment) is immensely talented.
