There you are, my Valentine
Asleep upon the bed.
I wonder if you’re dreaming
About the words I’ve said.
I’ve loved you lovely Valentine
From the day that first we met
You’ve occupied my very life
No instance of regret.
And here now as I look at you
I find I contemplate
The you that quite surpasses love
To make my love so great.
I love you, lovely Valentine
You never must forget
That every day I’ve loved you more
From the moment first we met.

But just before you come to wake,
My secret told, my leave I take.

Wonderful!! This bought a huge smile to my face :) I love the last couplet, it rounds it off superbly and adds an extra dimension to it. Has Mrs H seen it?

I gave it to Mrs H with a Valentine card (without the final couplet) and she was very chuffed. Then I checked the word count and realised it was a little bit short for a drabble (a couplet short it transpired!), so I added to it, as above. I was pleased with the final couplet as it fitted with the Valentine concept of secrecy/anonymity (as if!). Thanks for your comment.

You're becoming quite the poet, mate.
