Twice daily the mud and its muddy secrets emerge
Facing the world above daring air-bound raiders
Robbing from many riches morsel by morsel
Only the eagle-eyed invaders will succeed
Lucky inhabitants survive unlucky few
New visitors swim in on the ebb
Tempted predators float above
Tempted not
Taking time
Til I traverse the brine
I want not from below
I look not up not down
I see what lies across
I seek what I can see
I wait
I can wait
I must wait
From the window here
I see my boat lying there
Tide tells me when

Started out trying to write a haibun... the haiku is there at the end, but I got carried away with the ‘look’ of the rest, so it might not be what it started out being... if you see what I mean.

It’s the tale of my annual holiday on the beautiful, and very tidal, Salcombe estuary.

Very nice, Neville. I've written a haiku before but never tackled a haibun.

Thanks Christopher. I’m not sure if I’ve done the haibun correct, but hey!
