First night of ‘Strictly’ 2018 tonight. Loads of celebs starting the Strictly ‘journey’ pairing with professional dancing partners. Everyone was excited - the producers needed to give this impression because this was their opportunity to lock in the audience for however many weeks it takes the Glitter Ball to find its new home.

It’s fair to say that few of the celebrity dancers were household names, although in this household, a cutaway to the audience and one celebrity’s partner prompted me to announce “That’s Petula. I know her really well!”

“How come?” Mrs H asked suspiciously.

“One of my best students!”
