In the early days, our children wanted to get to the beach across the estuary soon after their morning crabbing activities. I was always fiddling with the boat, or the outboard all morning, loading windbreak and parasol, while long-suffering Mrs H was making sandwiches - each different and packing drinks, homemade chocolate biscuits, sun cream, sticking plasters...

We would reach the beach at 1pm, children getting hungry.

At last!

Crossing the estuary, we would invariably pass and wave to Greg and Steve going the other direction. The King was waiting to wrap them in his Arms... all afternoon, it seems.

Lovely sense of anticipation on reaching the beach. Enjoyed this much Neville. :-)

Thanks Drew. Yes, the homemade biscuits, known as Mars Bar biscuits when Mrs H makes them are absolutely delicious and when we go on holiday with the kids without them, there’s mutiny! We didn’t have any this year despite the fact that both sons and families were there at the start. Poor show!🙁 (maybe I’ll make some myself for a treat 😁

    Definitely!

Oh, and the Kings Arms there has really suffered since Steve and Greg stopped going there for their afternoon refreshments.
