A Norfolk farmer decided to move away from arable crops in the future because of concerns about the loss of subsidies when Britain finally leaves the EU. He wanted to move into high value, higher margin farming for which there was a very healthy local market, especially around Christmas. He needed a strategic acquisition.
Negotiations for a local poultry farm were stalling. The financial terms were fine, but the seller, a kindly man, insisted the farmer should check the deal out first with the birds.
"How can I do that?"
"Just let me know when you're ready to talk turkey."
