'Ninon' de l'Enclos reaching 22, father in exile, mother in death, entered a convent. A year later she left. Nundone! Getting none. She embarked upon a lifetime of not just getting some, but getting lots.
A wanton, she was never wanting for admirers ready to leap into her bed. But, it was one at a time, and at her behest, as she ejected, dejected, the recent occupant.
Well connected, of independent means, on her terms she encouraged men and enjoyed many. And she inspired young Moliere, left money to Voltaire and raced around with Racine... or so the stories go.

Thanks Drew. Heard a Radio4 prog about an English 17thC woman Libertine and realised I wasn't completely sure what Libertine meant. Now I do! Great this Internet, isn't it? :-)
