The last time I saw McCartney, I heard him too, four miles away. Everyone else within a ten mile radius did too!
My mate and I decided that if McCartney had the right to disturb us, then we had the right to disturb the peace by sneaking into the mega-gig at a nearby stately home. So that's what we did, surreptitiously, with our sons (who only went along for the Floyd!)
McCartney obviously didn't recognise me, well I could hardly expect him to, as we were hiding at the back of the park. But then freebies can't be choosies!

Your life never ceases to amaze me, Neville. Great series.

Thanks, Christopher, although I think that the brevity of the drabble format enables me to make something out of small happenings. Paul McCartney and I were the only two customers in that exclusive shop (very close to my office), we did both buy Dior Dior and he did compliment me on my choice. And Dior did send me the Dior Dior recipe... and we did sneak in to Knebworth and, with binoculars (!), see him onstage!

What year was that when you met him in the shop, if you don't mind my asking?
Neville Hunt over 6 years ago
It was a while back. He was no longer a Beatle, was married to Linda, leading Wings. I'm guessing it was late 70s. If I can find the Dior lettre (!) that might help me narrow it down as it would be a year or two before that. Sorry I can't be more specific at this point.

No, that's fine. I just wondered what general time period it was.

Thanks Drew. Tenuous connections, but that's what former admen make!

Thanks, that is a great compliment coming from the unquestionable Drabblemeister :-)

Christopher, I've discovered that Dior-Dior was launched in 1976 and was withdrawn very quickly as it was a commercial flop. I guess I met McCartney in 1978, possibly 1977. The parfum was the creation of the legendary parfumier, Edmond Roudnitska - he was the 'nose'. There is still a large group of Dior-Dior addicts mourning its loss. Apparently it was too lovely for the more assertive zeitgeist of the late 70s, but it was fabulous and smelt divine on Mrs H. I then discovered the rather exclusive Victorian Posy, by Penhaligon.... but I have just learnt that Penhaligon have just discontinued that too. I must stock up fast.

Too late! Can't find it anywhere. Curses :-(

Too bad! That's so cool that you met him before Wings even broke up.
