Theirs were the most spotless public loos in London. People said the Ladies' and Gentlemen's toilets in the high street were the best.
Highly polished brass handrails on the steps down and wall tiles so spotless you could see the colour of your eyes, the two attendants Enid and Norman took pride in their work. In the cubicles, the same care and attention was taken. You could almost eat your dinner off the seats.
Meeting every day at the top of the steps, it was obvious that they would wed.
It didn't last; it was just a marriage of convenience.
