The Romans brought over stinging nettles when they invaded Britain. Their soldiers practised 'urtification', deliberate stinging of the skin, in order to revive their tired muscles and bring back circulation in this savage, cold environment. Hippocrates regarded stinging nettles of significant medical value.
Fast forward to 2016 and I'm suffering from really bad psoriasis, resulting in permanently itchy skin, mostly around the legs and ankles. Pain I can stand; itching is really testing though. Why not 'urtificate' and thrash my legs with nettles, because stinging is better than itching?
I bet it will 'urt' though!
Or does that sound Hippocratical?
