Spoiler alert! It doesn't end well.

Two Scottish lairds hate one another - some historic, unforgotten dastardly deeds. Laird 1's sister, Lucia, falls for Laird 2, (Not looking good, is it?). He reciprocates, almost literally, onstage. Rings exchanged - that's serious!

Lover goes off to sort out the French. Meanwhile, Lucia's up the duff. Her brother forges letter saying her lover's a cheat. Forces her to marry rich dude.... Laird 2 comes back just too late.

She stabs, smothers, batters husband to death, miscarries onstage, goes mad, sees ghosts, slashes wrists in bath. Lover arrives too late. Slashes throat.

But the music is divine.

Oh.... and the blood....!
