You can be too well bred you know. Take Cavendish for instance, Gros Michel's successor. Born and raised in Chatsworth, one of England's finest stately homes, this aristocrat rose to world domination. The toughest battle was to resist Panama, which had savagely taken mighty Gros Michel down in the 50s. Cavendish won, a tasty victory.

Uneasy is the head that wears the crown. Panama, regrouping, has got smarter. Rumour has it that it has managed to penetrate Cavendish's thick skin. The word is out that Cavendish may be doomed. As short lived, say, as a banana in a warm room.

The Cavendish banana was nurtured in 1800s at Chatsworth House, England. Hitherto resistant to the Panama disease, the latter has adapted, as viruses do, and now threatens the banana worldwide.

Excellent drabble, even if it's a bit bananas ;-)
