The Trigger #6

by

I mind my own business. It's served me well all my long life. People don't bother me much; it must be respect for old age! They also serve who only stand and wait, said the poet. Standing and waiting was my kind of thing, but I wasn't waiting for what happened that day.

On the shoreline, where I always stand, feathered visitors accompany low water. An avocet sat where he sits. 'Ping!', 'ping!, 'ping!' What's that? Then the ground shook; terrible noise!

Kids sometimes climb up me a bit, but a bit of a kid's now stuck in my branches!

This is fascinating. A drabble from the point of view of every living thing in the area. It makes me now wonder what the life under the surface of the water thought about this day's work. And this installment also got me reacquainted with the work of Milton, which I'm ashamed to say I haven't thought about since I left school. Also, did you have a particular estuary in mind when you wrote the original drabble?

Thanks, Christopher. I'm glad you seem to be enjoying these. The estuary is the Stour in Suffolk, England. I know it well as my bro-in-law lives there and occasionally I fish for Bass there. The place of the 'action' is Stutton point - you can find it on Google Earth ( Stutton, Suffolk). It is very tidal and beautiful. With excellent walks - one of which is to Stutton point (good for digging worms at low water for fishing!). If you get to the UK, there is sooo much brilliant countryside that is not London!

You are having fun with this! It certainly makes a great series. Don't suppose there
was a dog walking around anywhere?

What a good idea, D.M.! I have 4 more perspectives I am looking at; this now makes 5! Much appreciated...(and yes, it's fun!)

Yeah, D.M. has made me want to go back and find one of my drabbles and do them from different points of views.
