Who’s that man she’s looking at? Is that a knowing look between them? She doesn’t look at me that way, does she? She’s touching her hair now; that’s a sure sign she’s interested in him. And look at him adjusting his necktie - another dead giveaway. Do they know each other already? I bet they’ve met before. Have they slept together; are they sleeping together? They are sleeping together!

She told me she was my true love, but how true is this true love? I’ll confront her later….

….says she’s never met him… so why did she break up with me?

Judging by the title, I thought this was going to be a drabble about an exorcism!

But seriously, you could feel the anxiety building in this drabble. The indecision and doubt is palpable. I've been exactly where that poor fella is.

Another really fine drabble, Neville. Great work.

Thanks very much, Christopher. I had struggled with the title and may even change it when I can come up with something better. I think lots of guys go through this possessiveness and associated anxiety...with the self-same end result. I know the first girl I fell for prompted such anxiety and uncertainty in me. What was certain though was that it signalled the end of an all-too-brief romance. (Not that I am remotely complaining as things worked out extremely well in the romance department for me a couple of years later, when I met the real girl of my dreams, as detailed in one of my earlier drabbles!)

The last two lines say it all.

    Thanks Olga and Michelle.

Michelle, I doubt that you'd really want someone like the narrator. In my experience, clinginess and jealous paranoia are not highly prized in partners!
