It was an old fashioned apprenticeship. The young man learnt by watching the master craftsman at work. This way of training new recruits was the only effective way to prepare for succession. The job required sensitivity, precision and mental agility, things rather difficult to teach. This particular apprenticeship required that the attributes for the job were absorbed rather than learnt.

Practice making perfect was not an option. Perfection from the start was the aim of the apprentice. And the aim of the apprentice was critical.

"OK?", whispered the master.

"OK!"

"Now!"

"Masterly!" he added as they quickly disassembled the weapon.
