Five years old and neither spoke a word of English. The teacher sat the new Polish boy next to the new boy from Somalia so she would be able to give them special attention, because they wouldn't be able to join in with much of the work the rest of the children were doing.
They quickly became inseparable. The Polish boy was such an incredible chatterbox while the other boy said little. Sensing he was very bright, the teacher worried about his quietness, but she needn’t have, as by the end of the term, the Somalian boy started talking.... Polish!
