My wife hums to herself, all the time. I miss it when she’s not around. Humming’s a sign of content, isn’t it? But it’s the content that we have issues with. 'Alouette, Gentille Alouette', the French-Canadian children’s song about plucking the feathers from a lark as revenge for the bird’s reveille song is not so bad first time around, sung by children, but hummed, incessantly, well that’s another thing. My wife claims she hates the song; me too! But she can’t stop herself.
I love my wife, but there she goes again, ruffling my feathers! A-a-a-ah!

I bet it's very interesting around your house, Neville! Really wonderful drabble.

fun! You could always start humming another song and see if she derails.

I try that from time to time (de temps en temps?) and it works for a while, but she then goes to the default and it's Groundhog Day again (if that isn't tautology).
