King Offa of Mercia (757-796) started it all with his silver penny. 240 of the little beauties weighed one pound. That was when a pound in your pocket probably tore a hole in it too through its sheer weight. Today, well the round pounds in my pocket don’t weigh me down; I wish they did.
We lost the other pound to the kilo a while back – it’s now illegal to sell anything in pounds. But if you think we’re going to lose the sterling pound, Eur mistaken. Let them impose their pro quo kilo, we’re keeping the Quid.

A very eloquent manifesto. Educational, too!
