It soared magnificently just above the trees and with a tweak of its wondrous red forked tail it maintained its gentle, lazy course. A dandy of a bird, it never fails to impress. I say that, but on this occasion, on the lookout for carrion or the odd little mammal below, this handsome creature floated just a little too close to the top of the tall trees, home to an extended family of crows. These satanic creatures were quick to set upon the larger bird without hesitation. Beauty can be beastly, so my money was on the crows. I won.
