It is forty years today since the passing of my greatly missed grandfather. He was a compulsive tinkerer of clocks and watches and fascinated by the idea of perpetual motion. On his death bed he swore me to never tell of his final project.
I kept my promiseā¦
His clock on the mantelpiece struck out its haunting hourly Westminster chime, as it had done so for four decades. I am the only one allowed to wind it. What nobody else knows, is that its only key remains in the top breast pocket of the suit in which grandfather was buried.
