The old man and the baby both stared at each other. One unable to speak, the other unwilling to speak.

The party revelers barely, noticing them both, pranced and danced like there was no yesterday, today, or tomorrow.

The old man stood leaning on his cane in both hands while balancing himself on wobbly legs. The baby also stood on two unsteady and barely tested legs getting his balance before taking his first steps.

When the old man finally spoke to the child at his side, he said, "Good luck, Baby New Year, I'm getting my ass out of here."

Oh man, I loved the two of them together but I did not know what to expect as this unfolded and the ending took me totally by surprise, so clever and so well constructed. It shoved a huge grin on my face at how good it was and how I'd been unaware of what it was about.
Happy New Year Michael, thanks for the great read :)

City of Heroes! 😁 At least that's what instantly popped into my head when I got to the end! 😀

Have a VERY Happy New Year Michael :) You too Drew! And everyone else here. And much respect to those we left behind in 2019.

Terrific, Michael. I had no idea until the last line. All things considered, 2019 was kind of challenging all round. Hope the baby’s not carrying any of 2019’s rubbish genes!🤞
