Kenneth was awakened by the sound of his own gurgling as he choked on his own saliva in his sleep. He gasped for breath as he cleared his throat. Lying in the dark, he reached for his glass of water he kept by the bed, his inhaler, and a piece of candy to suck on to erase the sour taste from his mouth.

As his heart raced and his arms quaked from the inhaler, he thought of God. He wasn't religious but felt somewhat spiritual. He wondered if everything he was taught was an elaborate hoax. He wanted to believe.

You've got beneath the skin of Kenneth and captured the age-old question in 100 words, no mean achievement! I love it so much, there are so many questions and so many aspects of human existence in this one drabble, Cheers Michael.

Drew, you are amazingly insightful. You saw things I didn't. And I wrote it! Thank you.

Thanks Michael. I swear there isn't a line in this that isn't packed with meaning and/or questions - the image of lying in the dark, then reaching out for help (the water), the conflict between religion and spirituality, the existence of God versus the need to believe in a power greater than us...
It's all there mate. And whether you meant it or not, it's an inspired piece of writing.
