Enid’s bereavement came too early despite her husband being about as exciting as the bags of washing cleaned in his laundry business. Enid though reinvented herself, released from purdah, and became a pelota aficionada after a trip to San Sebastian. Following Hemingway’s steps this feisty English lady, silver hair in a bun, would take her seat at the Frontón Galarreta amongst the all-male crowd.
She returned annually becoming a minor celebrity locally. On a recent pilgrimage to the City in search of her vibes, I felt so reconnected to my exotic grandmother that I’m certain her spirit lives on.

That’s one pelota drabble each today for you and me! Maternal or paternal grandmother? Great story!

Maternal. She never re-married but got her kicks in SAN Sebastian.
