My father, handsome urbane and a speedaholic was one of those irrepressible ATA ferry pilots in WW2, who flew over a 100 types of aircraft including Spitfires and Lancasters.
Driving towards the Norfolk county boundary he was stopped for speeding. His appeal to the seemingly sympathetic officer on the basis of his wartime record appeared to succeed. Relief was short lived as back on the road the Norfolk constabulary hauled him in again just over the County line. Cambridgeshire unsportingly had radioed ahead. At least the two forces, in deference to his service to the nation, prosecuted him only once!
