Olivine sounds cheap, fake. Like plasticine.
Like a customer described a colour between olive and green
But the painters said, “ let’s bung on olivine.
I’ve got a job lot “.
The customer wasn’t happy, said it smacked of oregano
“ I wanted to avoid it looking too industrial “ ( like Meccano ).
This shade of coating you’ve used gives me the icks
I just feel that it looks unfinished ( like Airfix )
But it’s not.
The gemstone variety does look nice though
which will be why they changed its name to peridot. ( Like Play-Doh ).

I've been mispronouncing olivine all this time :-) Reading this was an entertaining way to get it corrected

Oh, I'm not sure I am even pronouncing it correctly, that's just how I read it and liked the way it sounded. Perhaps I'm wrong and Olivine is rather fine ?

I’m with you for the een sound Lewis. It sounds a bit better than it’s alternative pronunciation when combined with olive (gawd bless her).
