“Kevin, get out of bed!” an excited voice in the dark. I saw father pacing my bedroom floor, ruffling his shaggy grey hair, laughing madly.
“Daddy, what is it?” I asked, rubbing my eyes.
“I did it! I found a way back!” he giggled. “A small metal thing. Lights up purple. But it doesn't last long.” He took a small glowing object from his pocket and guffawed.
The following morning, over a sunlit breakfast table, I asked mother to tell me again, what was he like?
She sipped her coffee through a thin, sad smile then replied, softly: “Always laughing.”

Hi LD. Such a clever and engaging debut Drabble. Well done on creating, as Drew has intimated, a Drabble that welcomes the reader into a dichotomy of emotions; I believe the phrase 'heart-warning' [no typo] best describes your first.
Welcome to Drablr.

Hi LD, yes this is an excellent Drabble telling a story much wider than its 100 words. Many years ago I used to have similar recurring dreams of my own (much missed) departed father. He seemed to be alive again but always had to go back to the spirit world. Excellent.
