“How can we possibly raise a family here?” asked my wife.
“It’s what we could afford,” I replied.
“The paint is chipped, the roof is leaking, the cabinets are falling apart, and the countertops are not marble. And that’s just what’s wrong in the kitchen,” she complained.
“With a little work it will be your dream home in no time,” I assured her.
A year later, I had saved enough money and finished the renovation. “What do you think of the new kitchen?”
“It takes me longer to load and unload the new dishwasher than to wash the dishes myself.”

    Wonderful dialogue. I can imagine my first home, too.
