John relied on public transport and taxis to get about. When he needed to go to a neighbouring city he contacted his taxi company. They gave him the costs of the journey but said he would have to pay by bank transfer for the return.

On the day he paid by cash for the outbound journey and was shocked to find that the meter was £15 cheaper than the quoted price.

On return he was quietly fuming that he had already paid an ‘inflated’ charge when the taxi was stuck for an hour in the motorway jam. No meter now.
