Post war brought joys to the growing Donald especially when old enough to leave his mother’s hand. The Grove Street Botto was a popular attraction, a dumping ground for the gravel pit and concrete factory.

Unhindered by safety rules, his older friends created their patch of Wembley turf. Short trousered athletes in tattered shirts battled it out to win the 3-a-side trophy. He was the ball boy hoping to play.

On the day of the final Donald had a chance to shine. Using his nimble footed skills against bigger opponents he battled through to score the winning goal.

I've never been into football, Brain, but this made me pleased for Donald. ;-)
