He ran away to join the circus.
Gerry was transfixed by the sexy and beautiful women and the rough and macho men. They did not look like his parents. He left his ‘O’ levels and the dull boring suburbia behind.
His first job was mucking out. He loved being part of the excitement and planned to have the biggest circus in the world.
On his travels he kept a notebook on every facet of building a circus business. With a 1500 seat Big Top and 150 trucks on the road he outlasted Mills, Chipperfield and Billy Smart.
That was Gerry Cottle.

True story, eh! The most successful people usually start with mucking out... because where there’s muck, there’s brass!
