She had always been top of the class right from reception. June could read before she went to school and had a head start. She knew her phonics by the time she was five.

SAT’s at the end of Key Stage 2 destroyed her reputation as Exam Phobia took over. Her predicted grades of 5 and even 6 came in at 3 and 4.

By the time she reached Year 11 and with GCSEs looming her confidence was shattering. June was saved by the school’s COVID policy that allowed her to choose her own method of assessment. Back on track.

    Assessment methods have always been a topic of much debate. Each has its benefits/disbenefits, some students even thriving in examinations. So I guess a balance of methods will prevail when and if we return to normal times. Glad that June is back on track.
