Waiting

The covers of the bed always feel funny when I get on. But once I find a comfortable position, I remember why I like to lie here. I can see the doorway that leads to the lounge. The same doorway leads to the kitchen, bathroom and front entrance.

It really is a perfect spot to wait in.

It’s been quiet all morning after the bustle of everyone getting ready. It’s lonely right now, but the wait will be worth it.

The faint squeak of the gate, careful acceleration up the steep driveway (she’s always so careful). Doors thud. She’s HOME!
