Masquerade

He chose to dig graves. Rejected because of his looks, he took refuge in the cemetery. The old ‘digger took pity and apprenticed him; now that the old man was gone he took over the job. No one else wanted to, due to tales of ghosts of the buried dead haunting the place.

Earlier, he helped bury a handsome boy.

As the darkness fell, he dug up the body again. He flayed the skin off the corpse and shaped the leather into a mask, to wear and add to his growing collection.

At least each night, he could be handsome.
