She still recalled his voice, low and calming, even now, even from all those years ago:
“Loved ones often look younger,” the undertaker at the Chapel of Rest had told her, “they’ve left life’s stresses behind and they’re at peace,” he’d said. And she remembered how, just being with her Mum, her spirit had soared, marvellously but fleetingly, even though -

Tears welled in Julie’s eyes. In the mirror, tears welled too, and slid down wrinkled cheeks. Julie reached out a hand, and the hand from the mirror met it. For a long moment’s intensity of silent emotion, trembling fingers touched.
