These Are My Friends #21

by

When Maria worked mornings on the checkout she served the old man every day: two frozen meals, a bottle of rum. For years the same; he always chose her checkout.
But today was the first time he used her name.
“Thank you Maria,” he’d said.
She was so shocked her eyes flew up to meet his. They were a piercing, insightful, blue. Shocked again. She had expected bloodshot, watery eyes, but they were the same intense blue of her own eyes, with the same birthmark above the left eyebrow.
Transfixed, she watched him leave, until the next customer coughed impatiently.

I came across this earlier and wanted to add it to my Friends series, so posted again. Sorry for doing repeats lol, but I'm sure it's here somewhere...

So... mirrorman or long lost granddad. So much to think of in this one Drew. Fascinating!
