Barn #2

by

We held each other staggering between house and barn, such was the storm’s ferocity. Such was the state of us both when we closed the barn door that we laughed at each other, oozing puddles onto the stone floor.
Shivering, she forked cat food onto tin plates for the five cats that swarmed about us, purring and meowing, tails erect, eyes pleading. Then we battled our return to the house where she made cups of cheap coffee, drunk too hot in her bed’s quiet warmth as the storm screamed outside.
I swear that coffee was the best I’ve ever tasted.

Think I’ll put ‘t kettle on.
This duet is so full of atmosphere that I have to go get a dressing gown while the coffee is brewing. Brrrrrr!

Thanks Neville. There's a seed of reality (many years ago) in this one. Probably should be loosely linked with "Therise Near Kavala" drabble :)
