Homes #4

by

He drove home from work and parked in the underground car park serving the new estate.
He couldn’t remember his parents’ flat, but whenever he heard his car door slam in the underground car park he couldn’t help remembering that his granddad died in an underground explosion.
By the time he opened his front door, though, he’d forgotten all that. His kids demanded him immediately. He kissed his wife and settled down with them to do whatever they wanted to him to do.
Tonight it was drawing. And, laughing loudly, they drew a street of lovely, old fashioned terraced houses.

    That's it. Splurge over.

This was a really nice splurge. I was unsure where it was heading but I'm glad the guy was able to make a better life for himself and his family.

Thanks Christopher. Yes, sometimes I think we can look back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles (which is probably what's happening with Dad and the kids) but I think "progress" has bettered quality of life for most people generally, at least in a physical sense.
