Homes #1

by

His great grandfather walked home from the docks to his terraced house. They had cockroaches: every home did. No matter how many you killed there were always more. You got used them on the ground, it was those that climbed that irritated him. Under the linen in the drawer. Beneath the kid’s pillow. Anywhere dark.
It was always warm in the house. Except early winter mornings when ice on the inside of windows clouded the glass and they had no water because the tap in the kitchen had frozen.
At least the freezing weather kept the cockroaches inside the walls.

Very vivid description. Kinda made my skin crawl.

Thanks Christopher. I don't like cockroaches very much (though to be honest I'm pretty certain I haven't seen one anywhere for years.
